ObamaWhat does he offer that she doesn't?

It's obvious that what Hillary Clinton cannot and will not understand is one very simple fact; that what Barack Obama offers far exceeds anything she could comprehend in her political stratagem; hope.

I think — I hope — that a majority of the people in the country are, or have been, fed up with broken promises, divisions drawn, and a voice that has been muted. People are looking for change, something different, uniting and people-driven. This is what he offers to me.

Granted, to me Obama is just more likeable as a person, but their views and opinions on political matters varies only in it's technicalities. Clinton values action and experience over words, it seems Obama values using both to get the job done. In my opnion they are both outstanding candidates, I'd be proud to call either of them my country's president. (That is not true by any means for any of the Republican candidates.) Clinton needs to kill the negativity though — I know she needs to be agressive since she's loosing — but come on, that turns me off to her more than anything else.

I have several fears about this campaign:

This campaign has all the makings of an American Tragedy. (I'll say nothing further on this one)

I also fear that America will stick to something familiar instead of something new when it comes time to cast those final votes. Upper level American politics has had that "old White man" look and feel about it since the birth of this country, it may not be easy to change the minds of people. As someone familiar with communications and branding, I'll put it this way: it'll be as difficult as making Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds appeal to a Vegan consumer base. But he's doing a really good job at it!

My hopes for this campaign:

...that the best candidate win. Black, White, male or female; this country needs some major adjustments. We need a repair man, not another divider or someone who will just as easily tear down what so many have attempted to build up in this democracy. It's still a very interesting and historical race to watch I'm happy to be mature enough to realize that fact. As I write this, the Democratic decision is up to the outcome of Ohio and Texas, At which point begins the real showdown.

Wow! So I think we all know I spend a great deal of my time on the Internet. I am a web designer too so it only makes sense. One of my favorite things to do is look at other artist's work, see their websites and check out what my peers are up to. Sometimes I'll contact them and say "hi" most of the time, however, I just bookmark their pages and come back later when I can read or keep up with their new work.

I'm going to feature a new artist from time-to-time on my site because sometimes I find something that's just really good, forward-thinking, or sometimes other-worldly. Matthew Ryan Barton's work — I came across today — falls into the last category. I wish I could have been there when this piece was installed. I'm sure I would have been absolutely dumbfounded! Read the description then view the breif video, you won't be sorry.

Time-O-Rama:
Electric Infinity with Real Plastic, 2006

A large installation; 20 mechanized taxidermy animals, two video projections, 5 sound cd's, flowers blooming, leaves falling and changing colors, lightning and thunder, wine was dispensed from a nozzle sticking out of the deer's ribs... I was trying to create a mystical reality, the experience of the collapse of time and space into a single point of reality, while being self-aware the paradox of creating such a reality using time-based media in a space. Special thanks to Anna Bojic for all her generous time and effort.

Monday, February 18, 2008Overwhelmed

What happened to February as a slow month for me? I'm hyperventalating from the pace that life is running me right now. I just started an online calendar from my email service since, for the past few years nothing written seems to work for me. I have overlapping events, events scheduled one right after another and so many parties I don't know how my liver will ever handle them all. Of course, no time is left for driving from one to another or anything like that. I suppose I'll just transcend time and space to get from one place to the next.

Mayor's Proclamation

Wow, this wednesday at 4:30 I'm being presented with a Mayors proclamation for the studio renovations and what I'm doing there, right after that I'm being videotaped for WHAS 11 News at the studio for the work I do with my little brother from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. It's an honor — I'm being honest — but it's really about what I'm trying to achieve. I want to make the world a better place. Since, in all seriousness — I doubt I could make the entire world a better place — I'm more than happy with starting with the city in which I live. Change the life of one teenage youth, I've done more than sit on my butt and watch TV. Attempt a two-fold perception change about certain parts of the city, I've done more than sit on my butt and watch TV.

I guess it's obvious that I have something aginst people who do nothing more to contribute to society than sitting on their butts and watching TV with their free time.

Getting to work

Bryce's GirlsHere's a photo of my girls. Some of the most beautiful, colorful, intelligent and resourceful women within a 250 mile radius. I just had to throw in a photo of them to remind me once again the foundation with which I'm building. Someone holds me up afterall. If not for a night of partying then for an evening of conversation and scattered but well-directed insight.

Today, which is President's Day... I let go of a few presidents. More like a lot of them. I spend the day caseing art supply stores and hardware stores getting all of the materials for my next series of paintings. For the second time in my life I have to pay a friend to produce all of the stretchers and frames for me. I have the new studio but I only have the time, and desire to make the actual paintings. I'm obessed with walking into the studio and having — quite literally — 6 blank canvases just waiting for me to turn into my next explosion of artistic expression.

They're gonna knock your socks off!

Friday, February 15, 2008Day and NightI feel like these flowers in a traffic median on Sunset Blvd. Life is flying by, it seems if it isn't Saturday night at a party then it's Wednesday afternoon naptime. My sleep schedule has been so random there is barely any rthyme or reason but, that's that way I like it. Mind you, I'm not falling behind or missing out on anything. Of all the things Bryce's do, we don't miss out. And we never fall behind.

I've put myself under tremendous pressure to get a body of paintings that I've been planning for months now completed. Many things present themselves with clear signals in my life. The signal that says "get your ass to work!" has been the recent sale of all but two of my paintings in the past 2 weeks. Here I have people making appointments to visit my studio and I've got little more than a few scattered works to show. In my opinion, it's a nice problem.

Equlibrium 5, Stereotyped, and Equlibrium 4 are all spoken for, America Series 1 is being viewed tonight. At the end of March large versions of Holding Pattern Shellee and Michelle will be up for action for the St. Francis Art Auction in a special section chosen by Julien Robson, curator of contemporary art at the Speed Art Museum. He was over last night by the way with two art collector friends taking a loook through new work and just generally spending quality time.

I'm blessed to have a curator that falls under the mentor/friend category. If anything the smallness of this town has its advantages from time to time. I guess I can't dislike it all that much.

Tuesday, February 13, 2008I tell you what... redesigning my own web page has got to be the toughest thing I've set myself to do in quite some time. Not like renovating a building or something like that, but totally different because I'm working with something that has grown and changed and morphed throughout the past 6 or 7 years.

I'm doing this in a completely different fashion, it's all in CSS (Controled Style Sheets) and there's a bit less control, but it's reductive and much cleaner. Now that I have a working structure down, I just need to go in and replace a huge amout of content. Fun!

Well, unfortunately I think my secret is out. There are 5 of me. 5 seperate but equal Bryce Hudson's, all play their own part in making the whole Bryce Hudson World successfully rotate around its axis without flying off into outer space.

I wish

On Friday February 01, 2008 I opened my studio — now called Plexus Contemporary — to the public. Mostly close friends and collectors were invited. It was just about the must fun one could have with a group of chefs cooking made-to-order crepes, a bartender dishing out the goods, and enough food and nibblies to make everyone happy they'd skipped dinner to come to my 7 o'clock party. Strange enough, I don't think I had a valuable in-depth conversation with one single person. I was able to put two of my paintings into new collections, and one of my artists found a new collector as well. I was just so busy ripping and running around trying to make sure everyone had been greeted, that the artists were comfortable with the display of their work, and that everything worked harmoniously. I can't help but to thank everyone involved from the artists to the people working with the food to the person equally involved with each and every detail Rhonda Caldwell. Had she not been there there would have been a breakdown in the fundamental principals of the universe. Thankfully we got to have the Friday night — late night — dance party USA in the main gallery room. Just three of us, music cranking, not a care in the world other than what moves to break out next in the Soul Train line.

I'm serious... we had a Soul Train line going with just three people.

And, like everything else, it was Hot!
