Family matters

What a great past weekend! I'm a good son. But i have to admit that i haven't visited my mother a single time in the 3 years since she's moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. Now she's been to visit me, she came up for my big opening and book launch earlier this year, but since I'm not much of a long-distance driver I haven't been to visit her. Since I missed out on my sister's wedding, I haven't seen her in years either. This weekend was a change! I bought a flight headed to Charlotte about 2 months ago for this past weekend and made it there with no problems, mom waiting to pick me up at the airport. I had a wonderful time, especially since my sister came in from her home in greensboro to spend Saturday/Sunday with us. It was just like old times.

I got my mother to eat my favorite Greek foods of Spanakopita and saganaki and she even ate sushi! We went to every art gallery and museum in the entire city and spent quality time together as a family just like all the days growing up... including a trip to the ice cream parlor where I devoured a 5-scoop milkshake;-)

Photos from the trip below: The Mint Museum of Craft and Design, The North Carolina Raptor Center and Carolina's Got Art! exhibit;-)

A year

Wow! It's very hard for me to believe that a year ago today I was just 3 days away from my big month-long artist residency in Beijing, China. With stops through Tokyo and a side-trip to Shangahi along the way I'd met many new friends and had a million and three different experiences that are with me till this day. I've attached a slide show from the my first visit to the 798 Arts district below. Other photos from the many places I visited like the Great Wall of China, Shanghai, artirts studios and the like are linked from the side of all my pages photos here. Videos here.

It's painful to overwrite my last year's blog from this experience it lead to an explosive period of creativity and construction in my life and my art work. But hey... that's what Bryce's do - we keep moving.

Now.

"Now" could be defined by the studio. It's an ice box in the Winter. I've been looking into getting it all renovated again from the section that connects my living quarters to the rest of the working areas but out of the blue my roof started leaking. When I called the company that I paid to put the new roof on 2 years ago I discovered that the owner of that company had died of a heart attack about 8 months ago. Leaving all of us with work done high and dry. Or better said "high and wet". I have to pay for a new roof and I have to pay for a new roof quickly ;-(

In other news:

I'm still working like a busy little bee on my work. I've had two photo shoots recently with new models for the Holding pattern series of prints. Combined with the new Equilibrium (Deco) prints I am quickly approaching a whole new body of work which i will soon need to have printed, mounted and framed. I'm happy to at least still have the ability to sucessfully balance my life, relationships, my work and my passion for creating new work.
